The Brazil worldwide also made an impressive start to this season for Liverpool, contributing to a combined four goals in his first six appearances.

The Brazilian playmaker has been a long-term target of the Blaugrana who made several attempts to sign him during the summer transfer window.

Liverpool are understood to be angered by Barcelona's latest attempt to unsettle their player and could do without the distraction in the week they lost Sadio Mane for six weeks to a hamstring injury on worldwide duty.

Liverpool successfully fended off Barcelona's pursuit of Coutinho in the summer, rejecting a transfer request from the 25-year-old and rebuffing bids of £72 million, £90.3 million and £118 million.

It's likely the Anfield club will be upset with Grau's comments having written to Barcelona urging them to stop trying to unsettle Coutinho.

Barcelona sold winger Neymar to Paris St Germain for a world-record fee of £198m in August, before spending £97m on Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund.

"We are ready to buy Coutinho in the winter market, or any player the technical staff request", he told reporters. "We will do our best to meet their demands", Grau said during a press conference in which he revealed a club record budget for the 2017-2018 campaign of €897m.

"If there are arrival maybe there will be also departures". The club will be sustainable, we don't want losses. We will be ready to recruit in January. If this is the case [If Barcelona sign players in January] we have to generate income and maybe someone have to leave.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona's Lionel Messi are the only two players to have won the Ballon d'Or since 2008.
