'Win-win-win' as Paris gets 2024 Olympics Los Angeles 2028

For the first time in modern Olympics history, the International Olympic Committee announced two host locations at once Wednesday: Paris in 2024 and Los Angeles in 2028.

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo is promising "cost efficient and sustainable games" when the French capital hosts the Olympics in 2024.

Paris and Los Angeles had been the only two candidates for the 2024 Games after Hamburg, Rome and Budapest withdrew from the race. Paris promises to deliver on its charm the games will show romantic backdrops of the Eiffel Tower and swimming in the Seine.

Both Paris 2024 and Los Angeles 2028 officials expressed their excitement at the decision to award their cities the Olympic Games. The 2024 edition will be the 100th anniversary.

"Los Angeles reflects the face of America's future and the heart of American values of inclusiveness, generosity and unity", Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti said during his final pitch to International Olympic Committee members.

About 75 people have braved rainy weather in Paris to protest against the 2024 Olympic Games and the city's property development and transport plans. A few weeks ago, it was revealed that the cities would be hosts but a few hours ago, it was confirmed.

With the blessing of the 130th IOC Session that met in Lausanne in July, the IOC, Los Angeles, Paris and their National Olympic Committees have been working together in order to reach the agreement that was ratified by the IOC Session today.

"I think it's a very positive message about the value of the Olympic movement and the value of the Olympic Games", said Sergei Bubka, the Olympic champion pole vaulter, who is an honorary member of the IOC. "Ensuring the stability of the Olympic Games for the athletes of the world for the next 11 years is something extraordinary", Bach commented.

With a responsible and controlled budget, these Olympic Games will have an estimated economic impact of €10.7 billion for the period 2017-2034, according to a study by the Center for Law and Economics of Sport.

Tokyo, the host of the next summer Games in 2020, has also had to fend off allegations of corruption regarding the decision to award it the Games four years ago.
