Muller said the company was likely to use two electric platforms, and is investing 20 billion euros (£18bn) into e-mobility, in one of the biggest procurement projects in the company's history.

"As early as 2020 we aim to sell 100,000 all-electric Volkswagens [per year]".

Before the major scandal that erupted two years ago because lowering Volkswagen indicators of harmful emissions, the automaker took nearly no notice of the market development of electric vehicles and unmanned vehicles.

At the Frankfurt show this morning Jaguar sought to un the ante with the launch of a racing version of its new EV-powered I-Pace SUV in a bid to create the world's first production car-based EV racing championship.

For the update, Volkswagen has worked forward towards production implementation, with changes made to the front and rear ends, and a fresh coat of Hibiscus Red Metallic paint giving it a more striking look.

"One thing is clear: The Golf of the future must once again be a people's auto!" The I.D. CROZZ makes a powerful and masculine impression with its wide bonnet, cleanly contoured wings and roof with a high-gloss black exterior finish.

Moving to its side, one will notice that the I.D. Crozz II does not have a B-pillar.

From a holistic approach to modular system integration to full-vehicle manufacturing and assembly, Magna works closely with global automakers to solve problems, identify new materials and processes, and provide unique solutions to industry challenges. Front-rear torque distribution is managed by a system VW calls an "electric propshaft". Whoever gets an electric crossover to market first will have a huge market advantage.

While VW makes no mention of curb weight, the company does forecast an impressive range per charge: 500 kilometers, or 311 miles. VW says the vehicle will still handle like a GTI and its battery can be charged to 80 percent in 30 minutes.

Other new features over the original concept include an interactive voice control that can be used to open or close all doors, and to activate or deactivate the fully automated "I.D".

Volkswagen chairman Herbert Diess has said that the new concept brings the ID Crozz more in line with the definitive production version than the original concept.
