In a tweet on Wednesday, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd warned that "sworn LEOs will be at every shelter, checking IDs".

"We can not and we will not have innocent children in a shelter with sexual offenders and predators". We can not and we will not have innocent children in a shelter with sexual offenders & predators.

When checking IDs, if an officer sees that someone has a warrant, that person will be taken into custody, Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Carrie Horstman said.

During Hurricane Harvey in Houston, authorities repeatedly stressed that immigrants would not be questioned about their status, in the hopes everyone who needed shelter would be unafraid to come forward.

"We are encouraging those with active warrants to turn themselves into the Polk County Jail-it is a safe and secure facility", she said.

Hurricane Irma is forecasted to move over Florida at the beginning of next week. The Category 5 storm is projected to reach the state Sunday morning.

Judd was elected sheriff in Polk County in 2004, having started in the office in 1972 as a dispatcher.

According to Business Insider, Judd is popular in Polk County and has made a name for himself by combating pedophilia.

In an interview with Fox 13, the sheriff reiterated that his Twitter posts are meant to give a fair warning for those who were issued with warrants since they still have several days to sort out their infractions before they choose to stay in a shelter. You are using the phrase, 'people who are scared to go to jail.' If you have a warrant, legally you should be in jail.

And in a joint statement, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Protection said they would focus on "lifesaving and life-sustaining activities" rather than target undocumented immigrants at evacuation sites.

"If somebody could possibly injure my child and I was in a shelter, I wouldn't want them around my kid", she said.
