And since Huawei has stopped making the device, Google has chose to offer a better replacement - a spanking new Pixel XL.

That's because the company has changed its approach to hardware ever since the introduction of the original Pixel phone past year. HTC made the last year's Pixel phones for Google. The sighting of the billboard comes just as the LG-manufactured Pixel 2 XL passes through FCC. We don't doubt the October 4 launch but we're curious why it's the same as last year's unveiling. Interestingly, this poses a question that if Google Pixel 2 is G011A and Pixel XL 2 is G011C, what happened to "G011B", the alleged "Muskie" smartphone.

Beyond the announcement date, Google is only teasing new features with billboards that have been spotted Boston (via a tip from Droid-Life) and a video posted to its YouTube channel.

Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL: Recently, Apple unveiled this year's iPhone models named iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. So, Google is also trying to launch their own devices.

Since Qualcomm had already announced that there won't be a Snapdragon 836, the Pixel 2 and the Pixel XL 2 would probably be powered by the Snapdragon 835 which is now the processor used in every other top end phones.

There have been some substantial Pixel 2 leaks in recent months, which point to Google going with a slightly more Nexus-style strategy of splitting up manufacturing. If you're not into huge phones, we called the 5-inch pixel a "superb alternative".

Separately, it appears Google will be launching the new Pixel handsets on October 4. Both phones are also expected to have a squeezable frame not unlike the HTC U11, a feature that will probably be tied to Google Assistant.

A filing for a device with the code ZNFG011C recently arrived at the FCC in the United States, which 9to5Google reported is likely the Pixel 2 XL.

Unfortunately, "Why does my phone not have a headphone jack?" isn't one of the questions.
