"We've turned down an offer for Jonny", he said, while telling reporters Evans will have a late fitness test on a hamstring injury before heading to Turf Moor.

Manchester City showed interest in the 29-year-old Evans weeks ago to strengthen its defensive line with central defenders Vincent Kompany, Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones as regular players in the starting line-up.

But with West Brom having already rejected a bid of £18 million, Guardiola says signing Evans is not make-or-break.

"If we have to stay with the players we have right now we are happy, if someone comes we are happy too".

Jonny understands the situation and where everything is.

Tony Pulis admitted that a deal could happen if the price is right, and West Brom are looking to extract a fee that reflects the figures elsewhere in the transfer window, which has seen prices skyrocket this summer.

"We try to have the best squad possible for the long season".

The Frenchman was farmed out on loan to Crystal Palace last season where he ended up winning their Player of the Year.

"I know how well the club works". Jonny is happy here and wants to get on with his football.

West Brom have made clear their intention to keep hold of Evans and appointed the Northern Ireland worldwide the new captain following Darren Fletcher's move to Stoke earlier this summer.

"Everton are a top squad and they have bought good players". Apart from his physicality, he doesn't rush into tackles and loves to play the ball from defence. "They are one of the best teams in the Premier League, I am pretty sure of that".
