The Defenders will set up Phase 2 of Marvel's Netflix shows

She calmly and confidently taunts the newly assembled Defenders team-Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Danny Rand/Iron Fist (Finn Jones)-and tries to ensure that any of the tensions that already exist among the team members remain heightened.

And similar to how the cornerstones of Earth's Mightiest Heroes broke off to headline their own individual solo movie after The Avengers, Marvel and Netflix have reportedly drawn up plans for new helpings of Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage in 2018. The show actually does him a favor by pairing him with Cage, who gives the poor little rich kid a speech about privilege that the screenwriters probably cribbed from a criticism of Iron Fist on Reddit. Claire is a huge glue stick that brings the four Defenders together.

After what seems like an eternity since we plowed through the nightmarish Iron Fist, The Defenders is finally here, tomorrow, to wash it all away.

None of them have had an easy ride, with Matt Murdock losing Elektra and revealing his identity to Karen - he's 'kind of lost' when The Defenders begins.

Filmed entirely in the Big Apple, "The Defenders" is steeped in the culture and custom of NY, a real-life backdrop that feels more organic than the fictional cities of Gotham or Metropolis. Luke's weight has been lifted after the first season. And the Iron Fist is still searching for his identity. It remains to be seen if "The Defenders" can elevate the character to a better standing.

If you were anxious that the show would suffer from some of the weak fight choreography we saw in Iron Fist, then don't.

Alexandra is certainly relishing that power in this trailer as we see her in action meeting the heroes who would oppose her.

While the tone and inspirations behind the series appear to be different from that of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's theatrical entries, one way the Netflix dramas will look to imitate their big-screen counterparts is through phases.

The full, eight-episode run of The Defenders drops Friday on Netflix.

And while we've known that this moment was going to arrive, the evil force that will bring our heroes together still remains a mystery. We know the latter will have amnesia during The Defenders, so she could have been hospitalized after returning from the dead.
