Rahul escaped unhurt in the attack which left the rear window panes of the vehicle broken. But, some of the Special Protection Group (SPG) personnel who were travelling with Rahul got injured, since they were sitting in the back of the auto.

Banaskantha Superintendent of Police Neeraj Badgujar said a man threw stones at Gandhi's auto, breaking its rear glass when he was on his way from Lal Chowk to the helipad in Dhanera. BJP only attacks Opposition.

In a series of tweets, Congress spokseperson Randeep Singh Surjewala alleged that the attack was an organised act by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists.

AICC spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said this attack has to be condemned and seen for what it is an authoritarian, dictatorial regime which brooks no dissent. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced on Tuesday a total package of Rs 2,350 crore for all north eastern states for mitigating the impact of floods on short and long term basis. He tweeted, " Rahul Gandhi's leadership style is working wonders in his party.

"This is being done deliberately by the BJP to create an atmosphere of fear in Gujarat just before the assembly eletcions".

Meanwhile, Gujarat Congress president Bharatsinh Solanki today visited Deesa town of Banaskantha district, where he interacted with the party workers about the ongoing relief work being carried out by the party in the region. This absence during a time of crisis, especially as the state inches closer to polls, could affect the already beleaguered Congress party's prospects in the state.

An FIR has been registered in the incident where anonymous persons attacked Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi's convoy at Gujarat's Dhanera on Friday.
