Arsenal had to rally from 2-1 and 3-2 down in an action-packed Premier League opener that was decided by Giroud's thumping header off the crossbar in the 85th minute at the Emirates.

"Top quality game and you want PL to be best in the world and you have to produce games like that", Wenger told reporters.

"His record in France is to score one [every] 80 minutes".

Research done by Bettingexpert shows that no current Premier League player has scored more opening day goals than Lacazette.

The Frenchman, who has been at the club since 1996, has been given a chance to turn things around despite calls for his head from disgruntled Arsenal fans waiting for a first league title under his stewardship since he led them to the crown in 2004.

"I believe he has the power, the attitude and the desire to integrate very quickly into the Premier League".

The Gunners have strengthened their squad over the summer following the signings of Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolašinac.

Petr Cech, Arsenal Captain said: "I think we made technical mistakes for the second goal, it can always happen - it's part of football".

It was scruffy end to a sublime move in which Arsenal's players tippy-tapped their way through the Leicester defence with laser-like speed and precision.

"That's unmanageable so to bring one more player in for the sake of it would be stupid, but if we find an exceptional one, we will do it".

"Tonight we needed this win and everyone knows the first game is important for the confidence".

While Ozil and Ramsey missed the Community Shield, Mertesacker was taken off injured after sustaining a head injury.

But after winning a record seventh FA Cup with victory over Chelsea, he penned a new two-year contract and his side's Houdini act against Leicester means that late-season momentum remains intact, albeit only just. The Veteran coach has a clue as to why his side had a disastrous campaign last season as they failed to qualify for the Champions League after finishing 1 point behind Liverpool.

"Let's focus on Leicester on Friday but let's not forget we've had hard starts at home in recent seasons". Leicester are going to cause teams trouble this season, but they are up against it here. "We kept going and the spirit of the team was absolutely outstanding", he said.
