Toronto Raptors agree to trade forward DeMarre Carroll to Brooklyn Nets

He has played for four different franchises before the trade to the Raptors, and spent last season with the Nets, appearing in 64 matches for them. National Basketball Association teams are maneuvering to get the necessary cap room to sign the players they have made verbal agreements with. To have that flexibility the Nets had to sacrifice their cap situation for now.

In exchange for Nets' center Justin Hamilton, the Raptors are sending Carroll, a 2018 lottery-protected first-round draft choice and a 2018 second-round pick to Brooklyn.

Anunoby is under contract through the 2018-19 season, with two team option years to follow. ESPN's Brian Windhorst reports that the Raptors will waive Hamilton once the trade goes through and use the stretch provision to spread his cap hit out over the next three years.

That noted, the ability to add Miles was surely a crucial part of the Raptors' decision to trade Carroll.

The trade won't become official until the Wizards complete the process of matching Brooklyn's approximately $106.5 million offer sheet for wing Otto Porter, Jr.

Absorbing DeMarre Carroll's contract takes the Nets out of the running for any of the remaining free agents this offseason.

Grade this trade for the Nets?

The big question is- which Carroll will the Nets get? If Carroll can gain some chemistry with Russell in the preseason then he has a chance to average in the 20 point range as the primary scorer for the Nets. Furthermore, ever since the unfortunate (especially in hindsight) departure of forward Trevor Booker, the Jazz have lacked a certain amount of fire and a player who's unafraid to grind and do the dirty work.

Carroll is also a capable scorer. Will he be the shooter he was while in Atlanta or be the passive player who deferred to Lowry and DeRozan in Toronto?

It is unclear if Hamilton will have any role with Toronto for the coming season with a backlog of players at centre including Jonas Valanciunas, Lucas Nogueira and Jakob Poeltl.

Not to mention, with defensive-minded guys like Rudy Gobert, Ricky Rubio and even newcomer Donovan Mitchell, Carroll would fit very well with the current mantra and mindset of the team.
