Multiple people including three doctors shot at NY hospital

Multiple people were shot after a gunman opened fire at a hospital center in the New York City area Friday.

The spokesman did not specify how many people had been hurt in the incident at the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital, north of Manhattan, nor the seriousness of their injuries.

The New York Times, citing information furnished by an unnamed city Fire Department official, reported that three physicians had been shot, though their conditions were unknown. Images from the scene There were at least five other people injured in the shooting, sources said. The NYPD's official Twitter feed then posted an update saying, "The shooter is deceased".

CNN reports that the hospital is "among the largest providers of outpatient services in NY".

CBS New York reporter Reena Roy tweeted that the NYPD has confirmed that the shooter is down and no longer a threat.

CNN is reporting that police believe the shooter is a former employee of the hospital, indicating he would be able to navigate the hospital with familiarity.

The hospital is around 120-year-old and claims that there are almost 1,000 beds spread across multiple units.
