Deadline day has arrived for Redskins, Cousins

"Niners fans should be monitoring this because Kirk Cousins wants to play for Kyle Shanahan, and I have someone telling me that, I think that's kind of an open secret", Jones said.

Savor that for a moment and then understand Cousins is playing this about as well as he played quarterback last season. "I believe wisdom is never impatient". I want to make the best decision I can.

Adam Schefter called the future of Cousins and the Redskins an "unprecedented situation", given that Cousins is the first quarterback to ever play under the franchise tag for two straight seasons. The first problem with this offer is that Cousins will make roughly $53 million at bare mimimum if the Redskins use the transition tag on him again in 2018. That would have been the second-most fully guaranteed money given to a QB behind Aaron Rodgers' $54 million.

The Steelers can tag the versatile Bell for the second straight season in 2018 at $14.54 million or re-sign him. Allen grew up outside of D.C.in Virginia. His take on Allen's statement, he said, "would be different than what maybe it appeared public perception was". "I respect and appreciate Bruce's point". The Redskins play in a tough division with two returning playoff teams that are both superior to them personnel-wise and, I'd argue, coaching wise too.

"I've been called Kurt my entire life", Cousins said.

"It was closer than people would think", Cousins said. It doesn't offend me. It's meant he got that $43.9 million win, lose or cut me.

For Cousins, it's pretty easy to see why he may be reticent to inking a deal with the Redskins beyond 2017.

Others bring up the Carolina Panthers and Giants games a year ago and say that Cousins can't win the "big" games and doesn't deserve elite money.

"But despite our repeated attempts, we have not received any offer from Kirk's agent this year", Allen continued.

But Allen is giving a statement about a guy who he's negotiating with - it would help to slow down and enunciate "the -irk" part of his name.

"One narrative has been if I do not sign a deal this July that I won't be a Redskin beyond this season", Cousins said. "And the ones that haven't, it really wasn't their choice". The Bills have two first round picks and could use one of the picks or pair them together to move up in the first round to find their ideal signal caller. So, I'm no different.

By virtue of the sides failing to reach a resolution, Cousins will become the first quarterback in National Football League history to play under the franchise tag in consecutive seasons. There will be plenty of time to figure all that out down the road. "We'll see with more information if we can make that happen".

Cousins is going into his third full season as Washington's starter.

This season will be the sixth in the National Football League for the 28-year old Cousins, who threw for 4,917 yards, 25 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in his second year as a full-time starter last season.

By not coming to terms on a contract, Cousins is counting on himself having another good year and upping his worth next offseason. If was franchised next year his contract would jump again.

Cousins is about to begin his third season as the team's starting quarterback, and his third season making weekly paid appearances on 106.7 the Fan. This year's deal included Tuesday's exclusive post-deadline appearance, whether a deal was reached.
