The redesign is certainly not going to be to everyone's taste.

Twitter says the changes will be launched today to Twitter for iOS and Twitter for Android through an update.

Begone the profile, additional accounts, settings, and privacy from the top and bottom of the Twitter app - they've all now been swept away to the left in a new menu entirely. The question really then is how much resonance will this have with the about 328 million active users?

Along with the new speech bubble icon, tweets have new-look retweet and favorite buttons.

The typography across the app is now "more consistent", plus there are bolder headlines. It's time for us to update our avatar.

But Apple's Safari View Controller also makes it easier to view web pages within apps without ads.

Version 7.0 of the iOS app is available in the App Store.

Other changes include a new high contrast mode for accessibility and a new fullscreen media viewer, where the background color is automatically chosen based on the dominant color in the photo. Late past year, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey posted a tweet asking users "what's the most important thing you want to see Twitter improve or create in 2017?"

Over the past few months, Twitter has been working towards the moderation of user behavior on the platform. Have you not tried iOS 11 on an iPad? It will undoubtedly take some getting used to for existing users, however.

Still for iOS, links will no longer automatically open in the Twitter reader.

Your Twitter avatar has always been square - until now. Till then, I'm a happy Tweetbot and Twitterrific user till I die.

For Android users, these changes were implemented last summer, and due to their positive response, Twitter is making those changes to iOS.

Twitter's site redesign comes after co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey went to the Twitterverse in late December seeking suggestions for the new year. This means that users will be able to actually see real-time updates about their tweets.
