It's weird that Empire buried the name within the article, especially since it's a giant-size spoiler for Season 7, if true. However, the new issue of Empire magazine (via Reddit) includes a feature previewing the upcoming season, and it says we'll soon find out Jon's actual name: Jaehaerys Targaryen.

What's in a name? A complicated first name which remains in the style of the Targaryen but which for the moment has not been confirmed. While waiting to know if it is really the name of Jon Snow, Is asked if the Lannister could be the big winners of Game of Thrones.

Could it be true?

Jon Snow who was regarded as a bastard son of Ned Stark happened to be the son of Lyanna Stark (Ned's younger sister) and Rhaegar Targaryen (brother of Daenerys).

Although the name tidbit is juicy, GOT fans are still craving their return to the world of Westeros. However, the name does line up with a theory that spawned from someone reading Lynna's lips during the Game of Thrones Season 6 finale.

While it is uncertain where Empire got the information and whether it is just speculation, Jaehaerys Targaryen could well be Jon's real name. "He knows about the origin of the White Walkers, too'".

But thanks to some expert sleuthing by fans, the name Bran witnessed Lyanna whisper to Ned during the second Tower of Joy flashback may have come to light.

"As we saw in the last episode of season six, Bran's (Isaac Hempstead Wright) psychic time-traveling "greensight" revealed the true nature of Jon's birth heritage and his real name: Jaehaerys Targaryen".

Jaehaerys II was Jon's great - grandfather. It's believed the Jon Snow will help fulfill the "dragon has three heads" prophecy, along with Daenerys and Tyrion. That was one of the common guesses after The Winds of Winter, and it makes a lot of sense.

A major Game of Thrones fan theory about Jon's real identity appears to have been confirmed.

He was also a well-liked ruler, notable for his kindness, compassion and intellect. Jaehaerys I also helped mitigate a strong conflict between the throne and the Faith Militant - dissension that resurfaces over time and is readily visible throughout Season 6 of "Thrones".
