Ex-UFC Fighter Matt Hughes Airlifted to Hospital After Accident Involving Train

Illinois State Police are investigating a truck versus train crash that left one person seriously injured Friday morning.

"Apparently he has head trauma", White added, via ESPN. Our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family.

Hughes' accident took place north of his hometown of Hillsboro, Illinois.

Per Okamoto, White didn't know where the crash occurred but said Hughes was helping his friend at the time. Hughes now lives in IL and was helping a friend when the accident took place.

The 43-year-old Hughes's family is en route to the facility. The train struck the passenger side of the truck Hughes was in.

Thankfully the former UFC welterweight champion of the world has been stabilized following the horrific accident.

The Guardian quoted IL state police as saying Hughes was "seriously injured".

Hughes is among the most accomplished welterweights in MMA history.

Throughout his career, Hughes beat a host of the sport's biggest stars, including Georges St. Pierre, Royce Gracie and B.J. Penn.
