Comey to testify publicly about Trump confrontations

Members of Congress are likely keen to hear what Comey has to say about Mr. Trump's apparent request that he drop the investigation of former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn.

The subpoenas were announced as the special counsel overseeing the government's investigation into possible Trump campaign ties to Russian Federation has approved former FBI Director James Comey to testify before the Senate intelligence committee, according to a Comey associate.

Comey has spoken privately with Special Counsel Robert Mueller III to work out the parameters for his testimony to ensure there are no legal entanglements as a result of his public account, a source said. He was the executive editor of Bloomberg News, before which he was a reporter, bureau chief and executive Washington editor at The Wall Street Journal. Flynn will provide some documents to the Senate intelligence committee as part of its probe into Russia's meddling in the 2016 election. Whoever Trump appoints will require Senate approval, and winning that could prove hard, as both Democrats and Republicans will probably push for a person who could resist the White House's influence. USA Today was first to report that Trump would be meeting with Pistole. They recognise that Trump has made risky enemies by offending the intelligence community and, with the sacking of Comey, the Federal Bureau of Investigation. "He's happy to testify, and he's happy to cooperate". "Your question supposes facts that have not been confirmed", Spicer said, when asked about Trump's son-in-law, top aide Jared Kushner, and whether he sought to coordinate secret discussions with Russian officials after the November elections. Trump has characterized the probes as little more than a "witch hunt" and "fake news". By smearing character of Comey, the Trump White House left him little choice but to testify in an open hearing and tell the world what he knows.
