The new product was unveiled during the company's Worldwide Developers Conference, where the company showcased some of the capabilities of the smart assistant, Mac World reports. Google and Apple have an entire library of features that the Echo lacks but, at the end of the day, Amazon Echo does come with Prime music and Spotify. Also, it has also introduced a new music-based smart speaker called HomePod built to deliver topnotch audio experience. Siri can be activated using the command "Hey, Siri".

Another thing working against the HomePod is its support of only one music platform, Apple Music. To use the hands-free device, you speak a trigger phrase - "Hey Siri", "OK Google", "Alexa" - and then ask a question such as "what's the weather?" or make a request like "order a Lyft".

It can also be used to control other devices in the home, and reportedly will be in competition against Amazon's Echo and Google Home.

The HomePod speaker looks to combine sound quality and voice control to compete with rivals such as Amazon and Google. The chip does all the fancy audio engineering - real-time acoustic modeling, audio beam forming and echo cancellation.

Apple announced its first ever smart speaker, HomePod, on Monday. This is very similar to Sonos' Trueplay feature, which similarly tunes its speakers to any room.

Chief executive Tim Cook said, ' Just like portable music, we would like to reinvent home music'. Apple also claims that the speaker's microphone array is strong enough to be able to pick up what a user is saying from across the room even when loud music is playing. Users can tell HomePod that they liked a song or to play more songs like the one they're listening to. He points out that through Bluetooth or a "line out" connection, you can connect a Dot to any compatible speaker of your choice. It will have Siri-integration to enable it to be controlled by voice.

Well, if you think this is the first time Apple has launched the speaker, you couldn't be more wrong. Interestingly, Sonos was absent from the list of early speaker partners. But to what extent Apple can surpass market leaders Amazon and Google?

And, with a six months heads-up, Amazon and Google can fill in any gaps and reinforce their products with new features.
