Manchester United and Chelsea are both keeping tabs on Ross Barkley, after Everton set him a deadline of one week to sign his new contract.

One player who is due to sign a new contract is Kevin Mirallas, after chairman Bill Kenwright broke the news at the club's end-of-season awards ceremony on Tuesday.

Koeman also discussed how much time Barkley has at his disposal before revealing his decision to Everton.

"It is up to the..."

"But people tend to forget that we missed many starting players during the season".

"Either he accepts the contract or we sell".

With manager Ronald Koeman's wanting to strengthen his defence in the upcoming transfer window, defender Jagielka said he still has more to offer after 10 years at the club. "I don't know, it's up to the player, he needs to make a decision".

Koeman disagrees with the Belgian striker but believes he can still improve his game.

"I think he improved in several aspects in his play but I think he can do better in several aspects of pressing, in working for the team".

At 23, the midfielder is entering a critical phase of his career - you sense that either his potential will or won't be fulfilled in the next 18 months to two years, and there are huge question marks over whether he can do that at Everton.

And he has now issued a stark ultimatum before tonight's Premier League home game against Watford.

Ross Barkley has scored four goals and provided eight assists in 34 Premier League appearances this season.

In the space of 24 hours, we've had good news and great news from the Spanish media for the Goodison Park faithful, and now we're back to not so good news.
