This year marked the 24th year for the national fundraiser held in more than 1,400 McDonald's restaurants across Canada.

McDonald's restaurants in North Bay and Sturgeon Falls raised $12,016 during McHappy Day Wednesday in support of the North Bay Regional Health Centre's Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit, and the Ronald McDonald House in Toronto.

Community Relations Representative Angela Seymour says that is an important facility for local residents.

He says whenever he's had to go to Vancouver to get his son treated medically, the hospitality of Ronald McDonald House goes above and beyond his expectations. "Now the journey for those families is just going to be a little bit easier, and that's something that each and every one of us can be proud about". The longest stay at the house past year was 373 consecutive nights.

"When we were down there the last time, and I usually try to stay with Jacob in the hospital in the situation he was in, but that night, he ended up in the ICU". The Ronald McDonald House keeps kids, youth, and families off of the streets.

"It's hard for families when their kids are in hospital, and they're anxious about their child".

There are 15 Ronald McDonald Houses, 16 Ronald McDonald Family Rooms and 2 Ronald McDonald Care Mobiles in Canada. "So having it within the hospital, I think for families it's not as hard to step away", says Keighley-Clarke.
