Apparently, she doesn't want that to be her only memorable experience of the week.

Lexi Thompson shot a 6-under 65 and took a one-stroke lead after the first round of the Kingsmill Championship in Williamsburg, Va.

Thompson is one shot clear of fellow countrywomen Gerina Piller, Brittany Lincicome and Angel Yin.

Lexi Thompson had the round of the day and sits atop the leaderboard at the Kingsmill Championship Presented by JTBC after the first round. "I hit some great shots and rolled a few good putts, so that definitely helped out my confidence".

Aditi started well with three birdies in the first seven holes and was three-under through seven holes. I just didn't hit it too close. "But I get to hit a lot of drivers and 3-woods which helps out a lot".

The two players who are breathing down Ko's neck for the No 1 ranking, So Yeon Ryu and Ariya Jutanugarn, are back in the pack; Ryu is at three-under par and Jutanugarn one-over par, with both players early in their second rounds.

Thompson's 2015 Solheim Cup teammate and playing partner Cristie Kerr didn't fare quite so well.

Thompson jumped with retired Navy SEALs and a member of the Red Bull Air Force Larry Barbiero to announce her partnership with the SEAL Legacy Foundation, which provides support to families of wounded and fallen Navy SEALs.

Thompson got to 1 under on No. 1 and followed with consecutive birdies on Nos. That put her in a tie with Piller.

Piller closed with a bogey on No. 9, which dropped her to 5 under and a share of second place. "The rough's kind of thick, and I kind of hooked it out of the rough and didn't get on the green". Thompson finished with a 6-under. She only hit 12 of the 14 fairways and got to 10 of the 18 greens in regulation. "I didn't play that many events in the beginning of the year, I just played three in Australia and two after that". Not that she prefers to think of it that way. "I played very well". "I'm OK with that".

"It's not who I am".

Lincicome fired five birdies and played a bogey-free round. Her previous best round was a 66 in the second round in 2014 and the fourth round past year.

2015 champion, Minjee Lee from Perth, has also made a good start with a round of 68 to be tied for eighth alongside Victorian Su Oh, who finished runner-up in this event a year ago. "The girls are playing great, so I know that I need to try and keep up, and to be in contention, I need to make a lot of birdies out there".

"Golf is very up and down". But the only way I would jump out of a perfectly good plane is with a SEAL on my back.

Because of her conditional status, the 19-year-old Bengalurean's entry into tournaments would often be shrouded in doubt till the last minute. But she bogeyed the next hole.

World No. 1 Lydia Ko was tied for fifth at 4-under. "It's a solid first round".

Thompson will wear blue camouflage on Sundays to supper the SEAL Legacy Foundation, adding to her customary Saturday pink in honor of research into and awareness of breast cancer. "Words can't describe the feeling".
